If you live in a Dubai apartment and the neighbour below you has a water stain on their bathroom or bedroom ceiling, the source is almost certainly your bathroom floor.
Every time you shower, water lands on the tile floor, flows between tiles through the grout joints, and reaches the waterproof membrane underneath. If the membrane is intact, water drains to the floor drain and exits. If the membrane has degraded — particularly around the drain, pipe penetrations, or wall-floor junction — water passes through to the concrete slab below.
The neighbour below sees a brown stain on their ceiling that grows with each shower you take.
Bathroom waterproofing repair requires removing the tiles in the affected wet area, assessing and replacing the membrane, performing a water test before retiling, and installing new tiles with waterproof grout.
The water test is critical: before any tiles go back, the repaired membrane is flooded with 50mm of water for 24 to 48 hours. The ceiling below is monitored. Zero moisture means the membrane is sound and tiling can proceed. Any moisture means further membrane work is needed.
This test prevents the expensive scenario of completing the tile work only to discover the leak continues.

Your shower. Their ceiling. The membrane between is everything.
