Ceiling Fan Wobble — Why Your Fan Shakes and How to Fix It

Image
A ceiling fan that wobbles at medium or high speed is not just annoying — it indicates an imbalance that stresses the motor, mounting bracket, and electrical box. Over time, the vibration can loosen mounting screws, wear the motor bearings, and in extreme cases, compromise the ceiling attachment.   Common Causes of Fan Wobble   Blade imbalance is the most frequent cause. If one blade is slightly heavier than the others — from dust accumulation, moisture absorption, or manufacturing variance — the rotation becomes unbalanced. Cleaning all blades and using a blade balancing kit (a small weighted clip that attaches to the heavy blade) resolves most wobble.   Blade warping from heat or moisture causes one blade to sit at a different angle than the others. Warped blades should be replaced.   Loose blade screws allow individual blades to shift during rotation. Tightening all blade screws resolves this immediately.   Mounting bracket looseness allows the entire ...
